Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge him, and He will make straight your paths.” 

Being a golf enthusiast, I have watched most golf movies produced in the past few years and paid close attention to those who portrayed real life stories about people, moral values, perseverance and challenges.  There is a quote from the movie, The Greatest Game Ever Played, that has stayed with me on the golf course but more in application to life and my spiritual life.  The quote is from a ten-year-old caddie to a young amateur golfer playing against an older professional legend of the game for the 1913 US Open Championship.  As the young golfer faced a difficult putt, the ten-year-old told him, “Read it, roll it and hole it.”  The young amateur, Francis Ouimet, did exactly that for the win.  This quote was a confidence builder of mental focus, action and trust which has a message for us in the game of life. 

What do I mean?  As we live the game of life and our spiritual walk, we should always “read it, quote it and trust it.”  Read the situation we face from the perspective of God’s Word to see the landscape, dangers of getting off course and how to make the right decision.  Quote it means that we have mental focus on what we read and see it over and over in our mind.  Trust it means to take what we have read and quoted over in our mind and then take action in a positive sense that we are going to win.  We develop this trust by first reading whatever we face in light of God’s Word and then meditating on it and quoting it in our mind what we have read.  It is at that point that we can trust the action that God places in our heart and mind as a leader. This is also how we can move from being an amateur to a mature leader of significant impact in God’s kingdom, our homes, families and work.  It’s not golf, it’s life.
